Dear Parents/Carers,

Year 5 children will receive 7 swimming lessons as part of their Physical Education Curriculum, from Friday 17th April – Friday 5th June 2026. We have hired a swimming pool at Barncroft Primary School in Havant and 3 qualified swimming teachers. A coach with seatbelts will transport us there and back.

QI will cover the cost of the sessions as swimming is statutory during primary school education. These lessons should improve your child’s swimming confidence and swimming skills.

Lessons will take place on Friday 17th, 24th April, 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd May and 5th June. The children will need to bring a named bag containing:

• Swimming costume/trunks or shorts (no bikinis or Bermuda shorts as this is a school lesson, not a trip to the beach)
• Swimming hat (optional)
• Goggles (desirable)
• Towel
• Brush or comb (long hair must be securely tied back)
• Spare plastic bag for their wet towel and swimming costume/trunks

We will not be using the shower facilities, so the children will only require the items listed above. We suggest that children leave any jewellery, including earrings and watches at home (on those Fridays) as we have nowhere secure to keep them at the poolside.

The Year 5 classes will alternate each week, with one class leaving school at 12:10pm and the other at 1.10pm and returning to school by 2pm and 3pm respectively. Lunch will be earlier for those leaving school, at 12:10pm and sufficient time will be given to eat prior to departure.
